Bicycle lanes in the Netherlands are red. They are like a red carpet for cyclists. They are not just a bit of paint. It is actually a thick layer of very smooth red asphalt. This video shows a road (Parklaan) being resurfaced in the city of 's-Hertogenbosch (a.k.a . Den Bosch). It makes clear how it is done. Four machines rolling down the street on a Sunday, Two with the red asphalt for the cycle lanes, two with black asphalt for the car lanes. The same night the white lines were painted on and the following day all traffic could use the street again.
Infrastructure like this makes cycling attractive and pleasant.
